Description

A gynecologic laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that allows a surgeon to diagnose and treat gynecologic conditions using a laparoscope, a thin, lighted tube with a camera on the end: Procedure A small incision is made in the abdomen, and the laparoscope is inserted into the pelvic and abdominal cavities. Carbon dioxide gas is used to help visualize the internal organs. The camera sends images to a TV monitor in the operating room. Risks Risks include bleeding around the incision site, damage to major blood vessels, and injury to the bowel or bladder. There's also a risk of converting the procedure to open surgery, though this is rare.
